Making Kombucha: Part 2 - Getting it Ready to Drink

So, I would first like to start by saying that my kombucha kit love does not fall with

Humble Bumble. Don’t get me wrong, their packaging is super cute and I will continue to

use their jar just for that reason but I will be switching back to the Kombucha Shop recipe. What I found was that the acidity level of the Humble Bumble recipe was not high enough which resulted in growth of mold during the fermentation process which never happened with the Kombucha Shop recipe. Anyway, here are the steps to finish your kombucha process.

After your brew is complete:

  1. Use a very fine strainer to strain the kombucha liquid into your flavoring jars leaving the mother and a bit of liquid remaining in the jar. (I use half gallon mason jars)

  2. Add to the strained liquid your flavoring. (I used frozen mangos and pineapple in one jar and strawberries and blueberries in the other jar)

  3. Let sit for 3-4 days so that the flavor from your fruit transfers to the kombucha liquid.

  4. Drink your kombucha. You can drink it with or without the fruit. I generally strain out the fruit when I drink mine but every once in a while I enjoy a few fermented blueberries. :)

  5. Start your new brew with the liquid and mother you set aside before flavoring.
