Starting Fresh in The New Year

Welcome to the new year, my farm people! It's time to start fresh and get organized on the farm. Here's how to make the most of the new year:

  1. Set some goals: Take a few minutes to think about what you want to achieve on the farm this year. Do you want to expand your operation, try out new crops or livestock, or focus on sustainability? Having a clear plan will help you stay motivated and on track throughout the year.

  2. Get your farm in order: The start of the year is a great time to declutter and get your farm organized. Clean out the barn, reorganize your tools and supplies, and make a list of everything you need to restock. For me this meant a trip to the dump and a nice bonfire!

  3. Check your equipment: Make sure all your farm equipment is in good working order. Repair or replace anything that's broken or worn out, and make a list of any new equipment you need. This year, I got all new bunny cages and re-homed my old ones.

  4. Plan your crops: If you're a farmer, now is the time to start thinking about what you want to plant in the coming year. Consider the climate, soil conditions, and market demand when choosing your crops. Make a planting schedule to keep yourself on track. I'm not a crop farmer or even much of a gardener but for me this means planting stuff my chickens can eat and lots of herbs for cooking.

  5. Take care of yourself: Farming can be hard work, so make sure to take care of yourself and your family. Eat healthy, get enough sleep, and take breaks when you need them. It's important to stay healthy and rested to be able to handle the demands of the farm.

By following these tips, you can start the new year off on the right foot and set yourself up for a successful and rewarding year on the farm. Happy farming!
